2016-11-15 Tue
A. H. Baldwin & Sons Ltd.’s Argentum auction on 5th November auctioned a 53 millimeters high container which looks like a stack of copper half-pennies for £288 against an estimate of £120 to £150. It is very rare to see coins which are used to store coins itself.24 brass imitation George III guineas and three authentic George III along with George IV coins were inside a copper box which looks like a stack of 1799 halfpennies, with two halfpennies used as the lid and base. Decorative bands were used on the edges of the container to make them look like coins.
Baldwin’s Argentum sales generally offer affordable items, twice a year. Many other ancient and modern items, including coins, paper money, medals, orders and decorations, and bank notes were offered at the event.
