Medals Featuring Horses Auctioned
2016-11-11 Fri
The media generally speaks about expensive coins but there are many collectors who like following a theme. Sometimes they were designed by artists who also designed coins as well.An auction on 17th and 19th November in Emporium Hamburg would be offering ancient to ultra-modern items including two special medals.
A Norwegian silver medal of Oscar II (1872 to 1905) depicts a horse and legends on the reverse indicating that the piece was an award for horse breeding. The 37.89-gram medal was designed by Artist and printmaker Lea Ahlborn.
A Swedish Gustaf V (1907 to 1950) silver medal was also offered for services to horse breeding. Adolf Lindberg designed this 34.1 grams medal depicting a horse on the reverse.
The Norwegian medal has an estimated value of €80 and the Swedish one has an estimated value of €40, which is not that high as compared to the other expensive coins that are generally talked about.
