Here’s all that you should know about the new currency notes.According to the announcements made by our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, the current currency notes of INR 500 and INR 1000 have been scrapped as legal tenders from yesterday midnight. This decision was made in an attempt to rid the nation of the black money and corruption.
RBI is set to release new series of banknotes, the Mahatma Gandhi (New) series, in the denominations of INR 500 and INR 2000. These notes have new security features added to it. Let’s have a look:
The new INR 500 notes sports a stone grey colour with the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi in the centre facing right on the obverse with the National emblem on the right. The reverse of the note has the logo of Swachch Bharat Abhiyan along with its slogan “Ek Kadam Swacchta ki aur” to left and the iconic heritage of India, the Red Fort, with the Indian Tricolour. The size of this new note is 63 mm x 150 mm.
INR 2000, this newly introduced denomination’s notes, which are 63 mm x 166 mm in size, will have magenta as its base colour with the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi in the centre facing right on the obverse with the National emblem on the right. The reverse depicts the most praiseworthy achievement of India, the Mangalayan, along with the logo of Swachch Bharat Abhiyan and its slogan “Ek Kadam Swacchta ki aur” to left.
This design of the new series of currency notes boldly features the policies of the government and at the same time celebrates both the rich heritage and the new era of technological achievements.
