On 7th November, special child welfare semipostal stamps are going to be issued by the Netherlands. The stamp features a bus full of characters from Dutch children’s books. The 100th birth anniversary of Sophia Maria Westendorp 1916-2004 is celebrated with the issue of these stamps. She was the one who illustrated children’s books written by Annie M.G. Schmidt (1911-95).
The new six semipostal stamps are worth domestic postal rate plus a surtax of 0.36, and six labels. Characters from the Jip and Janneke series, Pluk van de Petteflet (Tow-Truck Pluck), Het schaap Veronica (The Sheep Veronica), Otje, and Floddertje are shown on the stamp.
Apart from the general sale through post offices, 10 to 12-year-old children also engage in door-to-door sales.
The money that comes in through the sale will be donated to the Foundation for Children’s Welfare Stamps.
