2016-11-02 Wed
This November, Perth Mint is going to issue the last coin of the five-coin Perth’s Cubs series. The reverse of the coin features two lynx cubs in colour with Canadian rocky mountains in the background. This coin, issued for the nation of Tuvalu has a mintage limit of 5000.The lynx has a short tail, black hair on the tips of their ears, large, padded paws which are suitable for locomotion on snow and long whiskers on the face. They have a ruff with black bars under their neck like a bow tie which is sometimes not visible.
They come in brown to golden to beige-white colours; dark brown spots are sometimes seen on the limbs. They have white fur on their chests, bellies and on the insides of their legs. The lynx's colouring, fur length and paw size change depending upon the climatic conditions they live in. The ones found in the Southwestern United States are short-haired, dark in colour and have smaller and less padded paws. The ones found in colder regions have thicker fur, lighter colour, and their paws are larger and more padded, sometimes larger than the human hand or foot.
The bobcat and the Canada lynx are the smallest species are, while the largest is the Eurasian lynx.
