A warning has been sent out to the public by a junta spokesman named Winthai Suvaree on Sunday to watch out for fake banknotes that are being sold around the Grand Palace, where the late King Bhumibol’s body lies presently. Many followers and well wishers of the King were fooled by local vendors who were selling forged notes. Col. Winthai asked people who are selling these fake notes to stop doing this immediately as it destroys the good atmosphere and the image of Thai people. He also said that those who are caught doing this crime will be prosecuted.
An image of the note was posted on a facebook page named “Online News Hawks”. The Admin of the page asked people to not be fooled by these fake banknotes.
The late monarch died on 13th October at the age of 88 and ever since then people are eager to buy commemorative banknotes, coins and stamps associated with King Bhumibol.
His body of the King who ruled for 70 years is undergoing one year long funerary rites at the Grand Palace, where thousands of mourners visited last week to pay tribute to the Monarch.
