Isle of Man Extends Queen Elizabeth II’s birthday Celebrations on Coins

On 29th September, it was officially announced that The Pobjoy Mint issued commemorative coins for the Isle of Man to celebrate the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II. The Mint is also issuing more such coins for 6 other island nations like The Ascension Islands, British Antarctic Territory, British Indian Ocean Territory, British Virgin Islands, Falkland Islands, and South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands.The Queen was born on 21st April 1926 and the official birthday celebrations happened on 11th June 2016. The actual birthday is celebrated privately and the official one is celebrated with a public ceremony. A thanksgiving service was held at St. Paul’s Cathedral, and 10,000 guests attended a large street party in London’s Mall. She is the longest reigning monarch in British history and also the oldest one by age.
The reverse of the Uncirculated copper-nickel coin and the Proof .925 fine silver coin features a portrait of the queen which recreates a photo from her visit to the Isle of Man in 1989, along with a small image of the island. The map is overlapped by the triskelion symbol for the Isle of Man. The obverse features the common portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
The Uncirculated crown has an unlimited mintage and is priced at $16.95. The Proof crown has a mintage limit of 10,000 pieces and can be purchased for $65.
