Thomas Clayton Wolfe an American novelist of the early twentieth century was born today on 3rd October 1900. Mintage world pays tribute to this extraordinary novelist on his 116th Birth Anniversary.

Born in Asheville, North Carolina, Thomas was the youngest of the eight children. At the very young age of 20, Thomas began to write. His Two versions of his play The Mountains were performed in 1921.

When he could not sell any of his plays because of their great length, Wolfe found his writing style more suited to fiction than the stage. Wolfe wrote four lengthy novels, plus many short stories, dramatic works and novellas. He is known for mixing highly original, poetic, rhapsodic, and impressionistic prose with autobiographical writing. His books, written and published from the 1920s to the 1940s, vividly reflect on American culture and the mores of that period.

Even though, this legendary author died at the very young age of 38 years, Wolfe inspired the works of many other authors. Ray Bradbury was so much influenced by Wolfe theat he included him as a character in his books.

United States Postal Service (USPS) issued a 33 cents stamp on October 3, 2000. Celebrating the centenary year of his Birth, this stamp features his portrait with an angel in the background and his famous novel “Look Homeward, Angel”.
