Jane Austen, an author and poetess born on 17th December 1775 in Hampshire England was famous for her romantic fictions, biting irony and realism. Her acclaimed plots have gained her historical importance among scholars and critics.

Her famous novels Sense and Sensibility (1811), Pride and Prejudice (1813), Mansfield Park (1814) and Emma (1815) earned her a place as one of the most read writers of the English literature.

Franklin Mint Sculptors have minted a "Jane Austen Commemorative Proof Medal" in 1975 to commemorate 200th birth anniversary of the legendary author. This commemorative coin issued is a 38 millimetres Solid Franklin Bronze; First edition proof coin.

Also the Bank of England has announced that Jane Austen will replace naturalist Charles Darwin on the back of the 10-pound note. These notes are proposed to be released in 2017.
