La borde Collection Contains Ancient Roman Gold Coins

Stack’s Bowers Galleries collaborated with Numismatica Ars Classica to offer the George W. La Borde Collection of Roman Aurei – Part I, on 23rd May in Zurich, Switzerland. The collection includes the finest Roman Aurei formed with the assistance of Hadrien Rambach.It features 68 Aurei, including rare coins of amazing quality. One of the star coins was the Aureus of Clodius Albinus, which is one out of only three examples known and is also the finest out of all. Another highlight is the one issued by moneyer Numonius Vaala that is one of just fifteen known examples. Another beauty was an Aureus of Caracalla featuring a lion holding a thunderbolt in its maw on the reverse, an Aureus of Macrinus, an Aureus of Tacitus, an Aureus of Constantius I Chlorus of fine style and many more.
