Ivory Coast Coins Featuring Lord Ganesh with Peepal Leaves

2016-09-19 Mon

Lord Ganesha has worked his charms, not just in India. This cute elephant-headed Indian God has gone international. The government of Ivory Coast had issued lovely Ganesha Proof Coins in 2013 which were specially minted in Germany’s Mayer Mint. The coin features a coloured image of Lord Ganesha on Peepal leaves along with the inscriptions 'Vakratunda Mahakaya', which is a traditional Sanskrit Sloka.

It is the first time that this popular Indian God has been featured on any modern coin and hence it is considered to be a higher valued bullion coin, unlike commemorative currency coins. The coins come along with a serial numbered COA and are packed in a unique Mouse Shaped Box for Indian customers. The mintage limit of this Proof, 25 grams, 0.999 silver, 1001.00 FRANCS CFA face valued coin is 1001.
