2016-09-12 Mon
The historic monument Charminar at Hyderabad built in 1591, would be observing its 425th anniversary on 9th October. The day would also mark the fifth Qutb ruler Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah’s 450th Anniversary. The first day of 1000th Hijri/1591 AD is also considered as the foundation day of Hyderabad as per the Hijri calendar. This momentous occasion will be celebrated with the issue of a commemorative stamp and a coin of Quli Qutb Shah and Charminar.Officials and historians managing this heritage site requested Telangana state to take up with the Centre to issue a Rs 5 commemorative stamp and a Rs 5 coin.
The first brownish “One Anna” Charminar stamps of Hyderabad were issued in 1869 which were replaced in 1880 with a new design.
Two designs would be suggested by historians along with experts who would then come up with the most appropriate commemorative stamp and coin designs.
