San Francisco Mint Silver ‘1898’ Pesos Struck for use in China

Two million Mexican silver peso coins were struck in 1898 after WWII for Chiang Kai-Shek’s Nationalist government in China at the San Francisco Mint. Chiang Kai-Shek’s government though, lost to the Communists. A Mint State 65 example of this coin would be featured at Stephen Album Rare Coins’ auction scheduled from 15th September to 17th September.

The original reverse has 139 dentils with Mexico City Mint mark (Mo) and the restrike has 134 dentils with the mintmark o in Mo, higher than the M. The coin has an estimated value of $220 to $300.

Many other ancient, Islamic, Chinese, Indian and world coins along with numismatic literature would be offered at the event.
