New Rs 10 coin and Recomposed Rs 5 coin to be Issued by Pakistan

2016-09-02 Fri

Some reports have revealed that the federal government in Pakistan have decided to introduce Rs 10 coins and change the composition of Rs 5 by minimizing the intrinsic value from Rs 3.04 to Rs 2.60 and making changes to other features like diameter and weight. Similar changes would be made for Rs 1 and Rs 2 coins as well

At present, the intrinsic value is Rs 4.22 which may is more than the face value as the price of the metal has increased in the international market and the Pak rupee has devalued further. The relatively cheaper nickel, brass and aluminum, etc. would be used to mint the new coins.

The life span of a coin is more than twenty years and is recyclable, which is not the case with banknotes. Hence minting Rs 10 coins is also more cost-effective.
