India Post released a set of 6 commemorative stamps and Miniature Sheet featuring Indian Metal Crafts.

India is a land of beauty and art. The beautiful figurine of dancing girl from Indus alley Civilization is a testimony to the fact that Indian artisans knew the art of metalworking since ancient times.

A variety of metalwork can be seen from different parts of the country. From the metal vessels of Ladakh to the Chola bronzes of Tamil Nadu, these pieces of art indicate the high level of workmanship attained by ancient craftsmen.

To revive our ancient creativity India post has come up with set of 6 six stamps and a miniature sheet which commemorate India Metal crafts. The stamps come with 3 different denominations of Rs.5, Rs.15 and Rs.25.

Two stamps of Rs.5 depict iron Surahi (Iron Pitcher) and Bronze Natraja. Othe the other hand the stamps of Rs.15 feature Copper Pandan (a container used to store betel leaf, betel nut, tobacco etc.) and Brass Dhupdan (Incense Burner).

The stamps with the highest denomination depict the crafts made from the most precious metals. Silver Spouted Lota (spherical water vessel) and Gold Gajalakshmi Lamp are the epitome of craftsmanship.

These truly justifies the “diversity” of India!
