2015-12-15 Tue

While emptying a septic tank at the Gangnan Elementary School in Hsinchu, Taiwan; the cleaning crew found a hoard of 317 coins. Of these, 284 coins were $1 coins minted by the People’s Republic of China (PRC), and 33 were $1 coins issued during the Japanese colonial era and are collectors’ items. Due to its rarity, these coins fetch a fairly high price depending on the year it was minted in and its present condition. Numerous counterfeits are also available on the market; however, the coins found in Taiwan seem to be genuine.
