ANA World and Ancient Coins Auction Realizes $4.89 Million

The World and Ancient coins sessions got almost $4.9 million as part of the overall Stack’s Bowers Galleries ANA auction, which in total fetched more than $21 million.

A lovely Syracuse Tetradrachm from the Agathocles times was sold for $14,100. An Aureus of Antoninus Pius graded Ch MS by NGC fetched $11,162. A rare Aureus of Septemius Severus coin was auctioned for $23,500. Three Aureii of emperors Gordian III, Aurelian and Galerius were respectively sold for $7,050, $11,750 and $21,150. Large gold coins from 1930s Czechoslovakia tripled its $29,375 estimate. El Salvador and high grade Medieval European gold were sold for a high value. A 1689 Hamburg Portugaloser of 10 Ducats was sold for $39,950. A rare 1761 gold Pattern Guinea was sold for $28,200. A 1937 four-piece gold set fetched an impressive $10,575. A very rare 1958 eight piece VIP set was auctioned for $30,550.

A 1914-R Italian 5 Lire in the choice grade of PCGS MS-63 fetched $15,275. A very rare one-year type 1747 Mexican 8 Escudos with a locally made bust was sold for $32,900. A pair of 12 Ducat Galben Mare commemoratives brought between one and a half to two times their high estimates. A 1908 25 Ruble in PCGS Proof-65 was hammered at a whopping $329,000! A huge 37 ½ Ruble in PCGS Proof-62 was sold for $199,750. A Mint State Pattern 2 Para/3 Kopek struck in silver was sold for a final price of $76,375.
