Some rare and error Royal Mint coins have been in the limelight and are all priced at a very high value than their actual denomination. Let’s take a look at a few of them.

The Royal Mint had decided to switch the date from the reverse to the obverse and redesigned the 20p piece in 2008. The Mint mismatched the old and new designs and 50,000 to 200,000 error coins were produced with no date and released. These coins are now worth around £100.

29 different 2012 Olympic Games Commemorative coins were issued and each of them had a different mintage limit. A full set can be bought for £35 but some are more desirable or rare designs such as football, wheelchair rugby, wrestling and tennis coins. 600 Error aquatic coins were released which show water passing directly over the swimmer’s face. The design was altered with a visible face. The error coin is now worth £3,000.

All 2p coins had ‘New Pence’ on the reverse till 1981 after British currency went decimal in 1971. ‘New Pence” was replaced with ‘Two Pence’ in 1982. In 1983, a small number of ‘New Pence’ coins were issued accidently. They are now available for £650 each.

Other rare coins that can fetch you some good bucks include, Guy Fawkes £2 coin for £16, the EC commemorative 50p coin for £20 the Mary Rose and King James Bible £2 coins for £6 etc.
