Byzantine Coin Discovered in Bulgaria

Bulgarian archaeologists discovered a medieval coin featuring Emperor Nikephoros II Phokas (910s-969) along with Virgin Mary in Balchik, near the northern coast of the Black Sea.As per official reports, the golden coin will be immediately exhibited for the public at the Balchik museum. A summer training camp of Archaeology students from the Sofia University St Kliment Ohridski at the Horizont fortress, resulted in this unique find. Horizont is the biggest 6th century fortress built in Bulgaria.
