Colourful Coin Celebrates 30 years of Aruba's Independence

On 4th August, the central bank of Aruba released a new commemorative coin celebrating the 40th anniversary of the day when the country introduced its national flag and anthem and the 30th anniversary of being a different entity from Netherlands.

Aruba got independence on 1st January, 1986. The Dutch monarch HM Queen Beatrix was the head of state. The Prime Minister and the Dutch monarch have executive authority. In May 2015, King Willem Alexander visited the country with his wife, Queen Maxima. On 30th April, 2013, Aruba welcomed their new monarch as the head of state by releasing a new coin.

The sterling silver coin features a colourful design depicting the 30th year of independence and the 40th anniversary of the Aruban flag and anthem. The treasure-chest of Aruban symbols includes the beach front of the island which is known for its clear blue waters.

Other inscriptions include HIMNO Y BANDERA (“anthem and flag”). The obverse features the current Aruban crest, the year of issue and denomination.
