Stamp Collection of Freddie Mercury will be on Display

Good news to the philatelists as well as to music lovers. Stamp Collection of your favourite singer – Freddie Mercury is coming on a display real soon.

Philately is a hobby for everyone. From a king to a president and an artist to a layman, everybody was into this serious yet interesting hobby. A unique collection of one such persona is being displayed in Stampex exhibition in London.

Born as Farrokh Bulsara, Freddie Mercury was known as the lead vocalist and songwriter of the rock band Queen. This famous stage persona was originally of Parsi descent in the Sultanate of Zanzibar and grew up there and in India until his mid-teens. He later moved to England with his family and became a British citizen.

Freddie earned a diploma in Art and Graphic Design and joined a series of bands after his graduation. Finally in 1970 he joined guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor and formed their own band and named it “Queen”. Queen became a highly famous band of 70’s and Freddie became one of the lead singers and was being admired by the world.

One of the lesser known facts about Freddie Mercury is that he was a childhood stamp collector. Freddie collected stamps between the ages of nine and 12 and his collection includes stamps from a wide range of countries across the world. However, his particular philatelic interest was in the stamps of his homeland. The album also incorporates a wide selection of stamps from British Empire as well as Eastern Europe.

Preserved by his father – Bomi Bulsara his collection is going to a star display of Stampex exhibition held between 14 – 17 September in London.
