2016-08-03 Wed

Ever thought that coupons issued by a company could be used as a substitute currency? Well Canadian Tire coupons / notes are exactly similar to the Canadian Dollars and can be used at all the Tire stores as real money! The Canadian Tire money (CTM) is a loyalty programme started by Canadian Tire Corporation, Limited is a Canadian retail company which sells a wide range of automotive, sports and leisure, and home products. The Company issues coupons which resemble the real currency notes currency before the introduction of the polymer bills.

However these coupons are considerably smaller than the actual size of the Bank of Canada notes. These coupons can be used as a substitute for the real legal tender in Canadian Tire stores.

The notes are printed on paper similar to real Canadian currency and some privately owned businesses in Canada accept CTM as payment since the owners of many such businesses shop at Canadian Tire. In Canadian Tire stores, CTM is accepted for Canadian money at par.

And as it turns out, this CTM is a very popular attraction amongst the Canadians. Though the Canadian Tire money doesn't have much value, many Canadians are fascinated by these brightly coloured notes.

When it was first introduced in 1950s as a unique and early equivalent of the modern loyalty program, Canadian Tire money was worth something. Even though the Canadian Tire money really isn't money at all, that hasn't stopped various pubs and shops from accepting the bills. Today it is losing its value in the digital world. But recently it was announced that the CTM will be available as digital money too.

Huh..Now let’s hope our Monopoly, Business and other board game money and coupons will be also accepted as a substitute to the legal tenders!
