2016-08-03 Wed

Lithuania welcomed the 2016 Rio Olympic Games by issuing special non-circulating Proof .925 fine silver legal tender €20 coin on 25th July.

The reverse of the coin features a swimmer with the Lithuanian inscription of the host city name, the year date and the Mint mark. The obverse features the Lithuanian Olympic Committee logo and the denomination.

Officials state that the reverse design is a representation of the Lithuanian swimmer Ruta Meilutyte who won the only gold medal in 100-meter breaststroke competition during the 2012 London Games as a 15-year-old. She would be leading the Lithuanian women’s swimming team this year.

The mintage limit of the coin is just 7,000 pieces.
