Tipu Sultan and His Coinage: Double Paisa of Tipu Sultan

The Double Paisa, also known as (Othmani- Name of Khalifa) or (Mushtari- Name of Jupiter), issued by Tipu Sultan, weighs approximately 21.5–22.8 grams. All #copper coins issued by Tipu Sultan were named after stars, but the Double Paisa bears the name of the Khalifa.Tipu Sultan issued the Copper Double Paisa in several varieties. One type features an elephant facing left or right with an uplifted trunk, a flag above and a Mauludi date. Another type displays a flag with the Persian legend "Mauludi." A third variety shows an elephant facing right with a flag above and the Persian letters "Alif", "Be", or "Te." The reverse of all these coins is inscribed with the denomination name, either Othmani or Mushtari, and the mint name.
