The Indo-Scythians, or Shakas, were nomadic pastoral tribes who ruled Central Asia. The term 'Shaka' appears in several Indian texts, such as the Mahabharata, Ramayana, and Puranas.

Maues, also known as Moga, the first Saka king, established Saka power in Gandhara and extended this supremacy over northwestern India.

Azes I was an Indo-Scythian ruler who dominated the Scythians in northern India between 58 BC and 35 BC. Azes I left a lasting legacy by founding the Azes Era.

The copper coin of King Azes weighing 13.49g features a Bull walking to the right with Greek legend around on the obverse and a Lion standing to the right, Kharoshthi legend on the reverse.
