Eucratides I was a prominent Indo-Greek king and the last powerful Greco-Bactrian monarch. He took the throne by overthrowing Euthydemus I and spent much of his reign fighting against pretenders and neighbouring rulers. At one point, he controlled territory as far as the Indus River but was eventually defeated and pushed back to Bactria. His extensive and prestigious coinage reflects the significance of his rule.A rare silver tetradrachm weighing 16.83g of Indo-Greek King Eukratides I fetches for INR 95,000 at an auction in Mumbai.
Obverse: Helmeted, diademed, and draped bust of the Eukratides I, facing right, wearing a helmet adorned with bull's horns and ears.
Reverse: Dioskouroi on horses rearing to the right with a monogram in the lower right and the Greek legend, 'Basilleos Megalou Eukratidou', above.
