Known for his eloquence, statesmanship, and poetic spirit his legacy spans from his pivotal role in India's nuclear policy to the country's development.

Narendra Modi's administration declared 25 December, Vajpayee's birthday, as Good Governance Day in 2014. He received the Bharat Ratna in 2015 and Padma Vibhushan in 1992.
