2016-08-01 Mon
Bisse d’Ayant, one of the largest irrigation canals in the southern canton of Valais will be featured on the latest Swiss 100-franc note. The announcement was a surprise for many officials as they had not expected the same.Built in 1442, the canal provides irrigation water in the area even today. The image portrays the wooden Bisse of Ayent and the rock wall on which it hangs as per the “water and humanitarian tradition” theme for the note. Other elements like an open hand and a globe will also be featured. Wind was the theme used for the 50-franc note which was introduced a few months ago. Other themes for the future notes include time, light, matter, and language.
