Chandragupta II, also called Vikramaditya, was the son of Samudragupta. He was the noble monarch of the Gupta Empire who ruled from 375 to 415 C.E.After sitting on the throne of the Gupta Empire, Chandragupta II continued the expansion policy of his father, Samudragupta. He expanded the boundaries of the Gupta Empire from the Indus River in the west to Bengal in the east and adopted the title Vikramaditya.
This Very Rare Archer-type gold Dinar (7.62g) was issued by Chandragupta II.
The obverse features the standard Archer type of Chandragupta II, with a slight variation: Bow string inwards and Brahmi legend 'Chandra' written vertically between the string and the King.
The reverse features Goddess Lakshmi, seated facing in padmasana posture on a lotus, holding a cornucopia on the left and a fillet on the right. Brahmi Legend 'Shri Vikramah' is written on the right.
