Demetrios I Bronze Coin, 8.32g, Sold For INR 26,000

Demetrius I Anicetus was a Greco-Bactrian and later Indo-Greek king who ruled regions from Bactria to ancient northwestern India. He was never defeated in battle and was posthumously referred to as 'the Unconquered' (Aniketos) on the pedigree coins of his successor, Agathocles.Demetrius I issued this copper coin weighing 8.32g. The obverse features bearded bust of Herakles to the right. The reverse features Radiate Artemis-Nanaia standing facing, drawing an arrow from a quiver & holding a grounded bow, monogram to left, Greek legend 'BA?I?E?? ?HMHTPIOY'.
This copper coin was sold for INR 26,000 at the Oswal Antiques auction held in Bengaluru on 14th July 2024.
