A coin shaped like a hairpin is called a 'Larin'. The name Larin originated from Lar in Iran, where they were first struck. The main issuers of these coins were the Safavid dynasty of Iran. They were used for maritime trade during medieval India, playing a crucial role in protecting against sea-pirate attacks.This silver Larin, 4.77g, was issued by Bijapur Sultanate ruler Ali Adil Shah. The obverse is inscribed as Ali Adil Shah. The reverse is inscribed as lari dabuli.
