2016-07-29 Fri

The third coin issued by the Royal Canadian Mint under the unique “Landscape Illusions” five-coin series features the salmon in its natural habitat. This series of coins specially celebrates the natural heritage of Canada. A unique optical illusion of an animal is created on the coins. In this coin the salmon also creates an optical illusion to depict a waterfall.

Canadian artist Julius T. Csotonyi designed the coin’s reverse showcasing a waterfall in colour. On a closer look one can see a salmon leaping upward beyond the falls.

The obverse features the common portrait of Queen Elizabeth II designed by Susanna Blunt.

The mintage limit of this 20 dollar 31.3 Grams .999 Silver coin is 5500.

The fourth coin will feature the Pronghorn Antelope and will be available in September 2016. The fifth coin will feature the Snowy Owl and will be available in November 2016.
