2016-07-28 Thu

Around 11,500 copper coins were collected by 5 students at a Newark school to raise funds for education and tuition fee of three Nepalese girls aged 14, 15 and 16. The total worth of the coins collected was £180. The money would be sent to the headman of a village in Nepal. One of the coin collectors Kathryn, met a Sherpa guide while taking part in a trek to Mount Everest, and that’s where the idea originated.

The children started raising funds after an assembly presentation by Barclays Life Skills which is aimed at encouraging young minds to work towards bringing about a change in the world.

The kids have been involved in several other charity work earlier as well. They were rewarded with an opportunity to attend a live concert in London celebrating their good work.
