From August 13 to October 20, 1990, a massive airlift was carried out to rescue Indian expatriates from Kuwait following the Iraqi invasion.Due to the assistance of Air India, a staggering 170,000 individuals were safely evacuated by commercial airlines before the Persian Gulf War erupted later that year.
India's national airline, Air India, was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records for evacuating the greatest number of people by a civil airliner during the historic mission.
