Savitribai Phule Commemorative Stamp

Savitribai Phule was an Indian reformer and women educationist born on 3rd January 1831. she was the first lady teacher in India who played a vital role in improving women's education and rights in India. She and her husband, Mahatma Joytirao Phule, contributed a lot to the advancement of women's rights in India. They both established one of the first modern Indian girl's schools at Pune's Bhide Wada in 1848. In 1987, during when plague epidemic, she provided rehabilitation and medical aid to plague patients.India post issued a commemorative stamp of Savitribai Phule in 1998 to commemorate her work.
