On the occasion of the centenary of Minicoy Lighthouse, India Post issued a stamp on February 2, 1985. Minicoy Lighthouse is located at Lakshadweep. India has a rich marine history. A lighthouse has an important feature in guiding ships while sailing on the open seas and approaching the land. Lighthouse in the 19th century in India is still in service today. The Department of Lighthouses and Lightships, Ministry of Shipping and Transport, Government of India, is in charge.The first lighthouse Mahabalipuram is India's oldest lighthouse.
