India: Commemorative stamp on Dr. Zakir Husain

Dr Zakir Husain was an Indian politician, an educationist, and an economist and served as the third President of India.He was the chairman of the Basic National Education Committee, which emphasized free and compulsory education in the first language. Husain was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 1954 for his contribution to education.
Husain served as the Governor of Bihar from 1957 to 1962 and was elected as India’s Vice President in 1962. He was conferred Bharat Ratna in 1963. He was elected as the president on 13th May 1967. He was the first Muslim to hold the post of President. He is also the first to die in office on 3rd May 1969.
India issued a commemorative stamp of Zakir Husain on 3rd May 1998. This grey-brown-coloured stamp portrays his image.
