Definitive Stamp of Homi Bhabha

India issued a definitive stamp of Homi Bhabha on 1st March 2009. This blue-coloured stamp has an image of Dr Homi Bhabha with his name. Homi Jehangir Bhabha was born on 30th October 1909.He was responsible for shifting the country’s focus by extracting power from the vast thorium reserves rather than meagre uranium reserves. This strategy was unique compared to the world, which helped to develop India's three-stage nuclear power programme. Bhabha is hailed as the “Father of the Indian nuclear programme.”
Homi Bhabha was also awarded the Adams Prize and Padma Bhushan, with a nomination for the Nobel Prize.
Homi Bhabha died in a plane crash on 24th January 1966 at the age of 56.
