1000 Portuguese Escudos of Queen Filipa

The Banco de Portugal issued 9 different denominations of Portuguese Escudo banknotes, including this 1000 Portuguese Escudo banknote (Queen Filipa). They are part of the Portuguese Escudo series that has been demonetized. In 1956, the Banco de Portugal began printing these 1000 Portuguese Escudo banknotes.Portugal started issuing banknotes on January 31, 1956. In the obverse of the banknote is Philippa of Lancaster, the English woman who became Queen of Portugal, is shown with a crown on the green and purple banknote of 1000 Portuguese Escudos Ouro. Banco de Portugal was written on the reverse. It is a standard circulation banknote. The denomination is 1,000 Portuguese escudos.
