Plymouth 400th Anniversary Commemorative Coins to Be released in 2020

400th anniversary of the settlement of Plymouth Colony will be celebrated though the release of special commemorative gold, silver and clad coins. It was at then when the Mayflower Compact was signed and the “First thanksgiving” feast took place.

The coin would be a part of a 2-year series, the first one would be released in January 2020 and would bear the inscriptions of the year 2020, 2021 or 2020-2021. A special act was introduced on 28th June 2016 for this special release.

The commemorative coins aim at celebrating the significant contributions of the Wampanoag tribes, the signing of the Mayflower Compact, the 50-year Pilgrim-Wampanoag peace treaty, and the First Thanksgiving.

If the bill is passed successfully, 100,000 $5 gold coins, 500,000 silver dollars; and 750,000 clad half-dollars would be minted in collector qualities of proof and uncirculated.

$35 per gold coin, $10 per silver dollar and $5 per clad half-dollar would be shared between Plymouth 400, Inc., Plimouth Plantation, a Wampanoag tribal organization, the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, and the Pilgrim Society.
