Clement Richard Attlee was born on 3rd January 1863, a British politician who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1945 to 1951. Attlee worked as Deputy Prime Minister under Winston Churchill. He was the Leader of the Labour Party and served as the opposition leader from 1935 to 1940 and 1951 to 1955. He is the longest-serving Labour leader.Attlee practised as a barrister after studying at Oxford University. He gave his legal work and joined Independent Labour Party. In 1919, he was elected as the mayor of Stepney and was elected as a Member of Parliament for Limehouse 1922. He later became the Deputy Leader of the Labour Party. In 1935, he was elected as the Leader of the Party. Attlee took the party into the wartime coalition government in 1940 under Winston Churchill.
He inherited a country close to beset food, housing and resources shortage and bankruptcy. Despite his social and economic reforms, these problems persisted until the end of his tenure.
He retired in 1955 and was elevated to the House of Lords, where he served until his death on 8th October 1967.
