Commemorative Stamp of James Wolfe

James Wolfe was born on 2nd January 1727. A British Army officer is known for his training reforms and as a major general.He served in Europe during the War of the Austrian Succession. He participated in the suppression of the Jacobite Rebellion in Flanders and Scotland, which brought him to the attention of his seniors. He served in the Scottish Highlands for eight years since the peace treaty of 1748 stopped his advancements. He was a Lieutenant colonel at the age of 23.
The Seven Years' War in 1756 offered him an opportunity for advancement. He played an important role in the raid of Rochefort in 1757. Thus, he was appointed as second-in-command of an expedition to capture the fortress of Louisbourg. He was successful in this campaign.
Later he was appointed as the commander of a force which sailed up the Saint Lawrence River to capture Quebec City. After a long siege, he defeated the French force but got killed in the Battle of the Plains of Abraham on 13th September 1759. He is remembered for this victory.
The above stamp is a commemorative stamp of James Wolfe. It was issued in 1999 by Tanzania. This multicolour stamp has a face value of 500 Tanzanian Shillings. This stamp portrays an image of James Wolfe near a river. The face value is in the top left corner, and the country is in the top right corner.
