2022-12-27 Tue
The Vikram Samvat, or Vikram calendar, was created in 57 B.C. by Vikramaditya, a mythical Samrat of ancient India. The meaning of the name Vikramaditya is "Sun of Valor," or "One who is as strong as the Sun." Vikramaditya is said to have ruled Ujjaini for a considerable amount of time, according to popular legends.Krat and Malav were other names for Vikram Samvat. In India, the Gregorian Calendar and Saka Samvat are used in addition to Vikram Samvat. It serves as Nepal's official calendar as well. The date when the Indian Constitution was adopted, 26 November 1949, is stated in Vikram Samvat in the Hindi translation of the Preamble.
Vikramaditya was the Paramara dynasty's King Mehendraditya's son, according to the Kathasaritsagara. The theme of the Kathasaritsagara is based on Brihatkathamanjari, which was first based on Gunnaddhya’s “Vadd Kaha," which was no longer available.
Department of Posts has issued a commemorative postage stamp of Samrat Vikramaditya, an Indian Emperor of ancient India and founder of the Hindu calendar known as Vikram Samvat.
