Guglielmo Marconi Commemorative Stamp

Guglielmo Marconi was an Italian inventor and electrical engineer well known for his invention of the practical radio wave-based wireless telegraph system. In 1909, he received the noble prize for his innovation, which he shared with German physicist Ferdinand Braun.

Guglielmo Marconi came up with the idea that communication among people is possible via wireless radio signals. Therefore, in 1895 he started his experiment at his home in Pontecchio, where he was able in send a signal, over one and a half miles. Guglielmo received many honours for his experiment, including the Noble Prize. In 1919 he was sent as a delegate to the peace conference, where he signed the peace treaties with Austria and Bulgaria.

Government of India issued his commemorative coin in 1974 to commemorate him and his work.
