Jon Sigurosson on 500 Icelandic Kronur banknote

Jon Sigrurosson was the leader of the Icelandic independence movement, an Iceland scholar and statesman who collected and edited many Old Norse sagas and documents. He spent much of his time gathering and editing the Iceland manuscript. He had established Arnamagnaean Foundation, especially for editing and gathering Old Icelandic manuscripts. He was the leader of the Patriotic Party, where he successfully agitated for Iceland’s freedom of trade in 1854, he also modernization of Iceland’s agriculture and fishing techniques.The Central Bank of Iceland issued this 500 Icelandic Kronur banknote that features him in 2001. These notes were issued in 6 different denominations under the Icelandic Kronur banknotes series. These notes are still in circulation.
