Dharamdev Pishorimal Anand, famously known as Dev Anand, was born on September 26, 1923. He was an Indian actor, writer, producer and director. Anand is known for his work in Hindi cinema, with a career that spans more than six decades.He was one of the most successful Indian actors. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Bhushan in 2001 and Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2002.
Dev Anand made his debut in 1946 with a lead in the movie Hum Ek Hain. He launched his own company in 1949, named Navketan Films. Dev directed and produced several of his successful movies under his banner.
His first colour film Guide was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 38th Academy Awards. He made his Directional debut with the film Prem Pujan. On December 03, 2011, Dev Anand died of a cardiac arrest in London.
