Commemorative Stamp of Thakkar Bappa

Amritlal Vithaldas Thakkar, popularly known as Thakkar Bappa, was born in a middle-class family on 29 November 1869 in the Basani area of Bhavanagar (Saurashtra), Gujarat. He completed his primary education at Bhavnagar and Dholera. In 1886, he secured the top rank in the matriculation exam in Bhavnagar.Amritlal Vithaldas Thakkar, throughout his life, worked for the upliftment of tribal people in Gujarat. In 1914, he became a member of the Servant of Indian Society, founded by Gopal Krishna Gokhale. He served as Vice-President of Adimjati Mandal, Ranchi, with Dr Rajendra Prasad as its President in 1946.
The Government of India issued his commemorative stamp in 1969 to commemorate him and his work.
