Remembering Jyotirao Phule on his Death Anniversary

Mahatama Jyotirao Phule was a prominent social reformer, activist, thinker and anti-caste social reformer from Maharashtra. He is well-known for his work on the upliftment of untouchables and his efforts in educating women. He and his wife, Savitribai Phule, were the pioneers of women's education in India.Mahatma Jyotiba Phule battled for girls' education in India throughout his life. He founded the first Hindu orphanage for unfortunate children. He started his first school for girls in Pune in 1848. He played a vital role in getting equal rights for people from lower castes.
Today on November 28 1890, this great soul passed away. In 1977, India Post issued a commemorative stamp in the personalities on stamp series to mark Jyotiba Phule as a great activist and teacher of India.
