ANA’s 125th anniversary was celebrated in a special way by the Shanghai Mint with the release of 1-ounce silver and gold Panda medals. Three new Panda coins will be offered at the American Numismatic Association World’s Fair of Money that is scheduled from 9th to 11th August. 1-ounce silver and gold medals along with a 12-ounce silver medal would be offered.

Pandas are adorable and are loved all over the world for their notoriously funny nature. They are also facing a danger of extinction. From 1980s to 1990s several panda commemorative coins have been issued.

The latest coin is designed by Yu Min. Min who is known for the 1983 Panda coin design which got the Coin of the Year award in 1985. He also worked on panda coin designs for the 2014 and 2015 Macau Numismatic Society show, and the 2016 World Money Fair in Berlin.

The 2016 ANA medals have the obverse of the 1925 California Diamond Jubilee silver half dollar at centre, a Chinese panda and a California bear.

The Hollywood sign appears on the half dollar design with bamboo and redwoods in the background.

The reverse features the ANA Lamp of Knowledge logo at the centre with the inscriptions ‘125TH ANNIVERSARY ANAHEIM 2016’, ‘THE LAMP OF KNOWLEDGE’ and its translation in Chinese.

These commemorative coins don’t feature denominations but will feature weight and other specifications.

The mintage of 1-ounce silver medal is limited to 2,000, and that of 1-ounce gold and 12-ounce silver medals is 125 each.
