“Mother Earth” Domed Droplet Coin
2016-07-18 Mon
Though 70% of the world is covered with water, only 2.5 percent of it is fresh and only 1 percent of it is easily accessible. There is a need to preserve water as many areas of the world are deprived of it to even sustain life. Also, both developed and developing countries are contributing to a lot of water pollution which is endangering the limited reserves that we have. The Royal Canadian Mint released a coin to focus on this alarming issue. The coin features a domed droplet with an image of the earth within it. The space around the water droplet signifies the diverse fauna and flora of Canada like a red fox, a red-headed woodpecker on a dogwood tree and an American kestrel with terrestrial forests, orca breaches and mountains in the background. The obverse features the common portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
